I was just on the forum yesterday. What happened now??

Hmm, basically a bunch of fighting on the art community side. And the reoccurring issue of mods not being transparent with things. I hope everything mellows out instead of escalating.

@jthrash I think some people have been "dramatic". Not to sound too jaded, but "probably the usual": Some people see something 'they' do not like more than once and it has to immediately spell "the downfall of everything", rather than to start a mature dialogue.

@jthrash @colorsCrimsonTears I'm taking a wild guess and say it's about "perceived character age". NG's moderation uses rules with some leeway in that regard but had to go for a stricter approach when (in a nutshell) Trump got elected.

It's "more than just inconvenient"; but in the end I prefer that approach to "We have to shut down the servers forever because of US law."

@Yatsufusa @colorsCrimsonTears Gotta love how the crowd that constantly whines about "liberals" shoving politics into everything shoves politics into everything once they regain power. Is no place safe anymore from Trump's ill-conceived EOs (Executive Orders) ruining our harmless fun?

To be fair, I think the UK passed some similar "anti-porn" nonsense that is putting Mr. Fulp and his moderators in a bind these days--and it's passed by the kind of repressed old politicians that think Disney Princess movies are not appropriate for children.

I understand the pressure from new laws, I just think things can stand to be more clear so no one gets upset. A little transparency goes a long way. Even if the mods are too busy to write a unique message (understandable) making a quick copy paste list or responses to issues, (especially one's that reoccur a lot) would probably do a world of good. That, and a bit more precessional way of speaking. But idk.
Hopefully this doesn't turn more people away. Things are already not as lively as in the past.

@jthrash Full disclosure: I can only tell you "that election date was the point in time from which on I perceived a drastic increase in (legitimate sounding) artist complaints from the direction of the NSFW-sector." I do not live in the US, so there might be more going on there that I simply never got any knowledge of.

@colorsCrimsonTears About the 'quick copy&paste list to respond to issues': I agree. However, I also get that such a "quick" list can become unwieldy. When I was doing regular reporting as a user I thought something similar and started archiving some reports that I would likely use again. I started collecting these in September 2023 and I have have 103 pre-written reports. To be honest: I cannot be bothered to go digging through all of them, every time I want to explain to a Review Moderator that I find the use of "gay" as a derogatory term offensive (etc.). Most of the time I write something up on the spot, because it's faster.
Another issue in that regard is that most artists/uploaders know _exactly_ what they did - or at lest they would know if they had read the rules. The Audio Portal is an extreme example of this. About 90% of the offenses are kids who want to use a song as a level in the game 'Geometry Dash'. 'I know for a fact' that that game has normal players as well, but... "Utterly insane and unsympathetic" would be a _flattering_ way to describe most of that crowd. I'd imagine the other Portals have similar occurrences, so I can understand why artists only get a more detailed explanation when they ask.

Audio Portal Moderator Pingu gave more detailed explanations about... *gestures above* "that whole thing" in the past, if you're interested:

GIVE IT UP FOR DAY 5
I think we'll be fine though.

Man I sure hope so.
The Newgrounds community is one of the coolest I've been in. Hopefully everyone can shake hands and drop it. We might not agree 100% with each other, but we can hopefully agree it's gone on long enough.
